Richmond Juniors receive England Invitations
5th March 2007
Three players from the U16 Richmond Boy’s team who recently competed in National Junior Championship held in Somerset have been given invitations to attend England Cadets National Squads Training. Ashley Roberts (Christ School); Mike Buck (Whitton School) and Michael Hones (Teddington School).
This is a great achievement to Richmond’s junior coaches showing lots of dedication and enthusiasm to inspire juniors to play volleyball and excel to elite level. The real breakthrough in raising the profile of volleyball in the Borough and involvement in larger scale community sport development occurred in 2006 when Richmond Volleyball joined the Competitive Edge Programme, a unique and successful initiative which embraces all secondary schools in the borough and focuses on providing school children with competitive opportunities.
Dedication and professionalism in delivery of an introductory volleyball programme by Richmond coaches has got a fantastic response from teachers and students and led to school curriculum volleyball, inspiring several after school clubs and helping establish weekly junior sessions. Richmond Volleyball is now recognised as one of four junior development strongholds in London.
