St Mary's women show encouraging display
10th November 2006
St Mary’s University played their first competitive match in the Surrey Women’s League Div 1 and although they have only been together for six weeks against a team who has played together for five years – this was a very encouraging display. St Mary’s showed their net dominance by powerful middle hitting from Carline Walshe and Hannah Telford.
Although BA did not have the same hitting power as St Mary’s they did have very good defensive and passing skills and used this to good affect.
St Mary’s never looked out of depth in the first two sets competing point for point, however their concentration in the 3rd showed that much work is still to be done.
Coach Lyes Sola was encouraged by the performance and the base to develop a strong team is good. The girls will have learnt a lot from this game and will be wanting to training harder next week and look forward to their next match. It is going to be a matter of time before the results starts to go our way and I am confidant they will.
Team List: Carline Walshe, Hannah Telford, Natalie Flynn, Ashley Fletcher, Jeneva Hall, Claire Smith, Arzu Davis, Nadia ali-Shahumi (Captain), Lyes Sola (Coach)
