u16's Richmond Girls - International Friendly!
17th October 2006
U16 Richmond Girls travelled yesterday to Marymount American School in Kingston for a friendly match. Big thank you goes to Lisa Fenaroli (Waldegrave) for organising a school bus and coming to support!
This match was a very important part of training for the U16 National Championship coming up on the 18th of November. We had an 8 strong squad from 4 Richmond Schools (HCC, Waldegrave, Teddington and Sheen) and the main aim was to play them together in the real game situation.
We started with 6 very nervous girls on court (and 2 on the bench, seemed genuinely relieved that they were not out there) and ended up with a TEAM showing great spirit, making clever observations of the game, testing their skills and being prepared to forget that a heavy ball does hurt a bit. There was some very good volleyball on display.
The game was a close one. We played 5 sets, Richmond won 2 and came really close in the third – 25:22. It was a great result for the first match together!
This Saturday, 11th November, we will have the last session at 5pm at Whitton SC before the 1st Round of National Junior Volleyball Championships!
