Richmond Schools Volleyball Finals

Last Friday afternoon was the first ever Richmond Secondary Schools Volleyball Finals hosted at St Mary's College (Twickenham).
Organised by Whitton Volleyball & Richmond Schools Sports Partnership through the Competitive Edge Porgramme five schools were selected for the volleyball event. They were Orleans Park, Whitton, Sheen, Waldegrave and Hampton Community College. A total of 50 students competed on the day.
Schools had to qualify for the grand final by competing against other once - the top two would for this qualification who compete in the finals for honours. Whitton School finished top of the group followed by Orleans Park. In the final Whitton were taken by surprise by Orleans Park discipline defensive display and produced a convincing 2-0 victory.
Commenting on the success of the competition, Whitton's Schools Coordinator said, ‘We are very pleased Richmond Secondary Schools Competitive Edge Programme organised by Gary Palmer and St Mary’s College have collaborated with Whitton VC to create this event. This volleyball tournament demonstrated how quickly the students learned the game and how much fun they had.
The students enjoyed the excellent sporting facilities and traditions of St Mary's and
Whitton coaches hope volleyball can be become one of the pinnacle sports in Richmond's schools sport competitive calendar. The aim for next year is to incorporate all the borough’s secondary schools and target some primary schools with taster
demonstration sessions.
