Since February 2006 volleyball has been established as one of the main sports in London Borough of Richmond upon Thames via the 'Competitive Edge' programme.

The 'Competitive Edge' is an initiative designed by Richmond Council run by Richmond & Kingston Schools Sports Partnership with the aim to encourage young people in Secondary Schools to take part in competitive sport and team games increasing participation and raising standards.

As part of this initiative Richmond Volleyball delivers a number of coaching sessions after school hours and organises volleyball competitions through various cluster age groups.

The progress made by Richmond Volleyball shows the importance of good practice. Richmond Volleyball would like to thank all SSP and all the teachers involved who are working very hard with us to improve volleyball standards in the community.

The next step once schools have successfully taken part in Richmond Volleyball Competitive Edge Programme or equivalent is to introduce a before school, during school, after-school, evenings or weekend coaching sessions. This pathway will offer the opportunity for our young people to have a healthy and safe alternative for their time outside of school. It will also help Richmond to identify players to develop into Richmond Junior Teams.
