Junior Referee Awards
What is the Young Referees Award?
The Volleyball England Young Referees Award is aimed at encouraging 14-19 year olds to participate in officiating
volleyball competition.
No experience of volleyball is necessary but is helpful.
This award will enable the candidates to competently officiate 2 v 2 (Volley Sport),
3 v 3 (Mini Volley) and 4 v 4 (Super Mini Volley) formats of volleyball.
Being the first step along the referee pathway, this award directly precedes
Grade IV (J)Level.
How is the award structured and assessed?
The Young Referees Award is a 6 hour course which
mainly consists of practical modules that are fun and actively involve candidates into refereeing.
It will start with the concept of Lets Play Volleyball games and its first stage,
Volley Sport, and will progress through Mini Volley format to Super Mini Volley.
Where can the young people use this award?
Upon completion, the young people will be able to officiate at all events that use Lets Play Volleyball formats including:
• school matches and borough festivals
• inter-borough events and junior local leagues
