David RijversSenior Mens & Junior Boys CoachQualification(s): FIVB Level 1 & EVA Level 3 (Theory) and UKCC Coach TutorDavid started his volleyball career with Wessex VC at 15 and played elite National Volleyball League Division 1 for 18 years as a setter. Between 1987-1992 he achieved three National Junior Championships titles and 2 runner-ups with Wessex VC. He also achieved titles at u’17 and u’19 and 1 runner-up at Inter-regional Championships with South-West team. He represented England Juniors from 1989-1991 (won 13 caps) and was part of the Great Britain Squad (under Ralph Hippolyte) and the England Senior Squad for several years. He was also ranked 6th best beach player in Britain (1991-96). Because of his studies/work he moved to London and joined Polonia (1994-96), London Malory (1996-2001), and London Aquila (2001-2005). Whilst with Malory, the team achieved five National League Division 1 titles and four National Senior Cup titles. He coached Ashcombe Women during 1999-2000 and led them to become National League Division 1 Champions and win the National Senior Cup title after no silver wear for 15 years. He coached Surrey Men in the National County Cup Finals 2002 to victory, breaking London’s five year dominance. During 2004-2006 (18 months) he coached the Northern Ireland Senior Men’s team and achieved their best European Championships qualifier performance for over 20 years. David joined Richmond in 2002 and since 2004 he has been one of the driving forces behind much of Richmond Volleyball progress to date. |
